Symmetry

Students looked at symmetry this week and we created some lovely symmetrical butterflies during maths time. This then got us thinking about creating symmetrical butterflies in art.

Here is room 5 creating their symmetrical butterflies.

So many visitors in a week!

We had a lot of visitors last week. A performer from the NED show on Thursday, Constable White on Friday and also the Auckland boys choir on Friday.

The NED show message

"Every child can be a Champion if they remember the message of NED and apply it to their lives"

Constable White came and talked to the children about her role as a police officer as our topic this term is people who help in our community. Children got to look at different equipment a police officer has and find out all the different things they do to help keep us safe.

Patterns

Today we did a bus stop activity for maths where the children moved around the different activities that were all about shapes and patterns.

We used the shapes to create patterns.

We used the peg boards to make patterns. Children made up their own ones and they also followed the cards that had some patterns on them.

We also created teddy bear patterns following the instruction cards.

And our last pattern making activity was using the connector blocks. Children had to use their muscles to get some of the blocks to stick together!

Ethan had a lot of fun using the frog flies to create patterns

Shapes

In maths at the moment we are learning all about 2D and 3D shapes.
The children really wanted to create shape people so after some inspiration from our robot brain break we decided to create shape robots.
They look great!!

This is the robot brain break.
